I really need to start taking my work laptop home so that I can post more. Greg is always working on the computer at home..... which is fine since he works from home. I don't ever want to stay on it too long because I don't want him to have to wait on me to conduct business. Anyways, we have been pretty busy lately! I went to Las Vegas for three days last week for work to visit some potential convention hotels. It was a good trip! I'm afraid I was a little spoiled for my first trip there. I'm pretty sure I only had to pay for one meal and we rode around everywhere in a limo. That won't be happening the next time I go, I'm sure.
So, I have successfully made two "theme" cakes. Even though they didn't turn out as professional looking as I would like them, I was still proud of them. Everyone has to start somewhere, right? The first one I did was for my father-in-law. I made a tackle box cake. It had bobbers and gummy worms poking out of it and sugar cookie fish decorated placed around the cake. I will have to get Greg to give me some pictures to post. The other cake I did was a camera cake for Greg's birthday (which is tomorrow). This one was pretty fun to make and turned out better than I expected. Right now, I am just using butter cream frosting to cover the cakes. I'm not a fondant fan, but I am slowly succumbing to the fact that I NEED to use it because I am NO GOOD at smoothing butter cream frosting. I think I could be good at it, I just lack the patience it takes to do it. I will be using a cool new fondant I found at the fair for the next cake. It should be REALLY cute. I bought some secret tools to use so I will post pictures after I make it.
Someday when I am on Food Network Challenge, I will laugh at these beginner style cakes.... I will laugh hard. :)
