On Lunch..... Again

I really need to start taking my work laptop home so that I can post more. Greg is always working on the computer at home..... which is fine since he works from home. I don't ever want to stay on it too long because I don't want him to have to wait on me to conduct business. Anyways, we have been pretty busy lately! I went to Las Vegas for three days last week for work to visit some potential convention hotels. It was a good trip! I'm afraid I was a little spoiled for my first trip there. I'm pretty sure I only had to pay for one meal and we rode around everywhere in a limo. That won't be happening the next time I go, I'm sure.

So, I have successfully made two "theme" cakes. Even though they didn't turn out as professional  looking as I would like them, I was still proud of them. Everyone has to start somewhere, right? The first one I did was for my father-in-law. I made a tackle box cake. It had bobbers and gummy worms poking out of it and sugar cookie fish decorated placed around the cake. I will have to get Greg to give me some pictures to post. The other cake I did was a camera cake for Greg's birthday (which is tomorrow). This one was pretty fun to make and turned out better than I expected. Right now, I am just using butter cream frosting to cover the cakes. I'm not a fondant fan, but I am slowly succumbing to the fact that I NEED to use it because I am NO GOOD at smoothing butter cream frosting. I think I could be good at it, I just lack the patience it takes to do it. I will be using a cool new fondant I found at the fair for the next cake. It should be REALLY cute. I bought some secret tools to use so I will post pictures after I make it.

Someday when I am on Food Network Challenge, I will laugh at these beginner style cakes.... I will laugh hard. :)

On Lunch

I'm going to try to quickly update this while I am on my lunch break. Things have been a little hectic lately. My cousin, who is in 1st grade, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday with pneumonia. Now, she also has the flu. Currently, she is in ICU until they get her breathing, oxygen numbers, etc. back to where they need to be. What a mess! The worst part is my uncle now has the flu and my aunt can't be at the hospital too much because she is right smack dab in the middle of chemo. Hopefully my cousin will be coming home this weekend.... hopefully. I hope everyone is taking their Vitamin C and staying away from sick people! Stay well!

Remembering

I know everyone says it, but I will always remember where I was on September 11, 2001. I was a senior in highschool sitting in Bible class when I heard what was going on in my country. I think it is important for everyone today to rember where they were, be thankful for the country and freedoms we have, and hope for a better future for this country and everyone in it.
Although I don't completely agree with today being called to be a "day of service", I know there are people who's job EVERYDAY is a day of service. If you see anyone in uniform today - a police officer, a soldier, a security guard, whoever - tell them thanks. People get so wrapped up in politics and opinions (myself included) of our country's current situation that we forget that there are people who work everyday to protect us as people and our rights. Regardless of your political affiliation, please remember that we have men and women fighting and dying to protect you. Even if you don't agree with the war we are in, the soldiers are still entitled to our respect and kind words. I hope that everyone today will stop and just remember.

GO POKES!

I know this is a little late but GO POKES! I'm so excited about our victory over Georgia! By the way, the Georgia fans were nothing but classy - and that was a breath of fresh air. Greg and I went to Stillwater with the intention of just tailgating with friends and I was able to score a ticket. I felt bad for leaving my husband but he seemed to be happy to see me happy to go. It's was a great day to wear orange, that's for sure. Now if only we could convince the athletic department to get rid of the goofy song they want to make people like, we would be in REALLY good shape! (It's really bad if you haven't heard it.) Well, this post wouldn't be complete without a small "thank you" to BYU. :)
